History of Solitaire

The game of Solitaire is believed to originate in the early 18th century. The game gained widespread popularity in the 19th century and has since become a beloved pastime for millions of players worldwide. Originally played with physical cards, Solitaire has now found its way into the digital realm, making it easily accessible to anyone with a computer or smartphone.

How to Play Solitaire?

Rules of Solitaire

Solitaire is played with a standard 52-card deck. The deck is initially shuffled, and then the following steps are followed:

  • Tableau: 28 cards are dealt face-down in seven piles. The first pile has one card, the second has two, and so on. The top card of every pile in Tableau is placed face-up.
  • Foundation: Four foundation piles, initially empty, are set aside. This is where each suit is built in ascending order. During the course of game, here, we place cards of each suit starting from Ace to King.
  • Stock: The remaining cards are placed facedown to create a stockpile. One card from the stock is drawn and placed face-up next to the stockpile.
  • Waste: The face-up cards adjacent to the Stockpile are referred to as the Waste Pile. Cards are taken from the Stockpile and displayed in the waste pile. You have the option to utilize any of these cards and transfer them within the tableau.

The goal of Solitaire is to build the foundation piles by suit and in ascending order, starting with the Ace and ending with the King. Here's how you play:

  • Move cards between piles: You can move face-up cards between tableau piles, arranging them in descending order and alternating colors. For example, a red 8 can be placed on a black 9.
  • Building on foundation piles: As you uncover Aces in the tableau, you can move them to the foundation piles. From there, you can build up each suit in ascending order.
  • Dealing from the stock: If you can't make any moves from the tableau, you can draw cards from the stockpile. You can either move the top card from the waste pile to the tableau or directly to the foundation piles if it's an Ace.
  • Empty tableau piles: Whenever you free up a tableau pile completely, you can only place a King (with no other cards) in that empty space.
  • Complete the game: The game is won when all cards are successfully moved to the foundation piles in ascending order, with each suit in its respective pile.
